SmartShift is Morrison’s patent-pending servo-driven flow divider, engineered to split a single high-speed container lane into multiple controlled lanes while maintaining the exact product pattern needed downstream.
Unlike conventional laners that stop, pivot, and release containers with every shift, SmartShift keeps product moving continuously under positive timing screw control, helping maintain throughput through the divide.

SmartShift Servo Lane Divider
Continuous, Controlled Container Dividing
SmartShift is designed to overcome the limitations of conventional lane dividers. Rather than relying on stop-and-pivot movement, air timing, or container friction, SmartShift uses servo control and Morrison’s timing screw technology to maintain positive control of each container throughout the dividing process.
Products continue moving throughout the divide, eliminating the repeated stopping and releasing required by conventional laners
Morrison’s timing screw technology controls each container through the divide instead of relying on variables such as friction or air
The system requires less floor space than many competing dividing solutions, making it easier to integrate into existing production lines
SmartShift can accommodate shorter and wider containers that conventional screw-based dividers may not be able to handle as well as rigid products and boxes

SmartShift is designed for operations running approximately 150 containers per minute and above, where efficiency lost during repeated stop-and-pivot cycles can quickly add up.
While the system can also support slower lines, high-throughput operations are positioned to see the fastest return. Additional lanes can be incorporated as production requirements evolve, allowing the divider to grow alongside the line.

A customer needed to combine three lanes of differently flavored beverage cans into one lane and then divide the flow into two lanes all while preserving a consistent repeating flavor pattern.
Morrison developed a complete system centered around a custom servo-driven flow divider, now known as SmartShift. The system supports 12 ounce and sleek cans, with coordinated timing screws and transfer stars maintaining organized product flow throughout the process.
