Container Single Indexing

Customer Container Handling Challenge

Our customer faced the challenge of needing a single lane for full/open containers that required capping and torquing using their current 4-head capper and torquer. They needed a solution that could handle multiple container sizes efficiently.

Morrison Solution

Morrison’s container handling experts designed an innovative indexing system with deluxe adjusters to accommodate various container sizes. The system works as follows:

  • Infeed: Containers are accepted at the infeed.
  • Indexing: Containers are indexed in groups of four.
  • Capping and Torquing: Once inside Morrison’s timing screw, the containers are precisely located under the customer’s capping and torquing station.
  • Discharge: After capping and torquing, containers are discharged from the system.

The timing screw, made from Delrin, provides precise placement, enhancing the efficiency of the capping and torquing process.

Construction

The timing screw drive unit was constructed from Stainless Steel and a Delrin timing screw, providing a durable yet lightweight solution. This construction met the specific industry standards required for the automotive sector.

Results

The implementation of Morrison’s indexing system significantly improved the production line’s efficiency. The precise placement of containers under the capper and torquer reduced downtime and increased throughput. The deluxe adjusters allowed the system to handle multiple container sizes seamlessly, providing the customer with a versatile solution adaptable to different product lines. The use of stainless steel and UHMW in the construction provided a robust and long-lasting solution, reducing maintenance costs and enhancing overall productivity.
