Morrison Container Handling Solutions Debuts New Changeover Game at PACK EXPO International, Along with Comprehensive Automated Container Handling Machine Lineup

Morrison Container Handling Solutions announces an impressive lineup of container handling equipment that will be present in Booth N-4906 at PACK EXPO International, November 3 through 6, at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois.

For decades the custom automation equipment OEM has been exhibiting various machine loops to serve as inspiration for the challenges the company can solve on packaging lines across the world. Each machine showcases concepts of container handling that position containers in unique ways to reduce manual labor and increase throughput and efficiency.

New to the show this year is a Morrison Rotary Base featuring Quick Change Parts in a gamified opportunity. Show attendees will be invited to beat the clock and see how fast they can changeover the rotary system with the quick change stars, guides, and timing screws. Prizes will be awarded each day for attendees who have the fastest times.

This display will showcase how easy it is to use Morrison parts on any OEM equipment and showcase the change parts [also known as bottle handling parts] product line for the company. The Rotary Base itself is an OEM solution to help companies that typically sell inline equipment provide a rotary, continuous motion and high-speed solution to their customers. Paired together, these two solutions showcase another realm of possibilities for Morrison customers to discover at the show that will enhance container handling and production capabilities for both OEMs and end users.

Additionally, Morrison will have four other pieces of equipment on display.

Alternate Inverting Loop

This loop features two different ways to create one up / one down pack patterns for a tapered ice cream cup through continuous motion. The pick and place operation follows the linear speed of the screw and picks out containers from the screw. It uses continuous motion to follow the position of the screw and grab containers, lowering the total cost of ownership (TCO) of the machine. The other side of the machine features a wheel that kicks the containers into proper position.

Ice cream cups are inverted in a one up, one down pattern.

Smart Changeover Machine

The Smart Changeover Machine runs multiple container sizes on one loop, manipulating the container position through a Timing Screw Drive Unit. This machine features a variety of upgrades including a down bottle reject system, quick change rails, Morrison Auto Adjust Rails®, and quick change parts. The system features auto timing of the screws and quick changeovers through the infinitely adjustable auto adjust rails.

Pill bottles go through a turning timing screw drive unit.

Smart Combiner and Divider Loop

This dynamic system combines and divides containers on the fly based on product demand downstream. This system allows you to take an upstream process that’s running at a faster speed and release the product into two lanes for a downstream operation that requires multiple lanes. It can also be used in a scenario where the downstream operation requires two machines to keep up with the upstream operation, like a filler upstream that can run faster than the downstream labeler.

The divider has been upgraded to showcase the cantilever screw dividing technology. Cantilever timing screws provide a dividing solution in the smallest possible footprint, traditionally completing the divide of production in under 18-inches. Overall, this machine demonstrates creating multipack patterns and combining and dividing for high-speed operations.

Twist Block Loop

The Morrison Twist Block loop features two styles of the can inverters from the OEM. One is a quick change model and the other is standard mounting that can be retrofitted to any existing line. Morrison Twist Blocks utilize a sanitary design compared to other blocks on the market, featuring only four pieces of plastic. Less plastic means less harbor points for bacteria and makes it easier to take apart, clean, and put back together.

Additional Equipment

Morrison has equipment located in various booths around the show floor. Please visit the following booths to see more of their container handling equipment in action with other OEM equipment:

  • Hamrick Packaging Systems Booth N-5619: Ahead of the Hamrick 600D case packer you’ll find a Morrison Turning Timing Screw Drive Unit.
  • Garrido USA Booth S-2576: Prior to the V-3 Form, Fill, Seal Machine is a Morrison Timing Screw Drive Unit designed to create pack patterns via grouping timing screws.

“We’re excited to showcase so many different solutions at PACK EXPO this year,” Morrison CEO Nancy Wilson said. “Every year, we focus on creating an experience for attendees that highlights various possibilities to improve their throughput, flexibility, and increase automation on their lines. This year is one of our best yet!”
