Turning Deodorant

Customer Container Handling Challenge

The customer needed an efficient solution to turn and index deodorant containers, accommodating 6 or 12 indexes per production cycle for the bundler. The challenge included managing the transition of containers over a deadplate from infeed to discharge while maintaining positive control.

Morrison Solution

Morrison engineered a dual drive timing screw unit specifically for oval deodorant containers. This system accepts the containers, rotates them 90 degrees from narrow side leading to wide side leading, and then indexes them in groups of 6 or 12 to match the production cycle of the bundler.

A critical aspect of the design was ensuring a smooth transition over the deadplate from the infeed to the discharge of the Morrison system. Careful engineering ensured that the containers maintained positive control throughout this transition, allowing them to enter the bundling process effectively without disruptions.

Construction

The dual turning and indexing custom timing screw drive unit is constructed from black anodized aluminum, providing a durable yet lightweight solution suitable for high-speed operations.

Results

By implementing Morrison’s custom solution, the customer achieved efficient handling and precise indexing of 1.7 oz and 2.6 oz deodorant containers at an operating speed of 168 containers per minute (CPM). The system’s ability to turn and index the containers accurately ensured smooth integration with the bundler, enhancing overall productivity and reducing potential handling issues.
