The customer required a robust system capable of controlling the pucks holding shampoo bottles, turning and indexing them to ensure precise pick and place access. The system needed to manage both container movements efficiently.
To meet this challenge, Morrison designed a custom dual turning and indexing timing screw drive unit. This system performs both turning and indexing operations, ensuring the shampoo bottles are positioned correctly for the pick and place process.
The system is capable of turning the containers both clockwise and counterclockwise within a single screw unit. It accepts two different styles of pucks holding shampoo bottles in a narrow side leading orientation. The process begins with the system turning the containers 90 degrees counterclockwise, positioning them in a back-to-back pitch. After this, the containers are turned 90 degrees clockwise to return to a narrow side leading orientation. Finally, the system indexes 12 cycles, allowing the pick and place mechanism to efficiently pull the containers out of the pucks.
The dual turning and indexing custom timing screw drive unit is constructed from stainless steel, ensuring durability and robustness for high-speed operations.
By implementing Morrison’s custom solution, the customer achieved precise control over the pucks and containers at an operating speed of 330 containers per minute (CPM). The system’s ability to turn and index the containers accurately ensured seamless integration with the pick and place mechanism, enhancing overall efficiency and productivity.
