The customer needed an efficient solution to turn their oval soap bottles from narrow side leading to wide side leading and then index them for bundling. The challenge was to manage the tall, narrow bottles, which tend to be less stable and present handling difficulties.
Morrison designed a dual-purpose timing screw drive unit that turns the oval soap containers 90 degrees and indexes them for bundling, all within the same compact system. After turning the containers, the system indexes every 3 to 6 cycles to create the appropriate bundle or packaging scenario based on the line requirements.
The design of Morrison’s screws ensures positive control of the containers by fully encapsulating them during the turning process and while transferring them to indexing. This design significantly reduces handling challenges and ensures the smooth discharge of containers, allowing them to remain upright for more accurate bundling.
The system is equipped with screw sets for eight different container sizes, making it highly adaptable. The “NO TOOLS” Quick Change feature allows for rapid and easy changeovers between different bottle sizes, enhancing operational efficiency.
The dual turning and indexing custom timing screw drive unit is constructed from black anodized aluminum, ensuring durability and a lightweight design ideal for high-speed operations.
Designed for the following container sizes:
• 200 mL PET
• 300 mL PET
• 400 mL PET
• 500 ML PET
• 800 mL PET
• 300 mL HDPE
• 500 mL HDPE
• 800 mL HDPE
By implementing Morrison’s custom solution, the customer achieved reliable and efficient handling of both PET and HDPE bottles at an operating speed of 150 containers per minute (CPM). The system’s ability to turn and index containers accurately ensured seamless bundling, enhancing overall productivity and reducing downtime due to handling issues.
