Grouping Nail Polish for Sleeving

Customer Container Handling Challenge

The customer required a solution to turn and group glass nail polish bottles efficiently for the sleeving process. The challenge was to ensure precise orientation and grouping while maintaining a high throughput.

Morrison Solution

Morrison’s engineers developed a timing screw drive unit to address this dual application challenge. The solution involves two key stages within a single system:

  • Turning: the first set of screws turns the nail polish bottles 90 degrees to achieve the correct orientation.
  • Grouping: The containers are then handed off to a second set of screws that groups the bottles into sets of two.

Once grouped, the bottles are discharged at the correct pitch, ensuring the proper orientation and spacing for the sleeving application. This process guarantees that the sleeves can be placed onto the bottles accurately and efficiently.

The system also features Morrison’s “No Tools” Quick Change capability, allowing for convenient switching of timing screws without tools, resulting in minimal downtime during changeovers.

Construction

The dual turning and grouping custom drive assembly is constructed from black anodized aluminum, providing a durable and lightweight solution ideal for high-speed operations.

Results

By implementing Morrison’s custom solution, the customer achieved efficient and precise handling of glass nail polish bottles at an operating speed of 120 containers per minute (CPM). The system’s ability to turn and group the bottles accurately ensured a seamless sleeving process, enhancing overall productivity and reducing operational downtime.
