Turning Soap

Customer Container Handling Challenge

The customer needed a solution to rotate rectangular soap bottles 90 degrees before they entered a sleever. The narrow side leading orientation of the bottles presented a handling challenge that required precise control to ensure smooth operation.

Morrison Solution

Morrison’s engineering team designed a custom timing screw drive unit to meet this challenge. The unit is capable of accepting full, capped soap bottles in a narrow side leading orientation and turning them 90 degrees to a wide side leading position, preparing them for the sleever.

The unique design of Morrison’s screws allows for full encapsulation of the narrow, square containers, providing better control and handling compared to other manufacturers. This system is also adaptable and practical, as it can be reused with new screws for different container sizes, offering versatility for future needs.

Construction

The dual turning custom drive assembly is constructed from black anodized aluminum, ensuring a durable and lightweight solution ideal for high-speed operations.

Results

By implementing Morrison’s custom solution, the customer achieved reliable and efficient container handling at an operating speed of 160 containers per minute (CPM). The system’s ability to turn narrow bottles with precision ensured a seamless transition into the sleever, enhancing overall productivity and reducing handling issues.
