Servo Feeding into Lugs for Soup Bowls

Food Handling Solution

Case Study: Dual Metering Custom Timing Screw Drive Unit

INDUSTRY: Food / Soup | OPERATING SPEED: 88 CPM

CONTAINER: Round and Square Glass Mayo Jars

Customer Container Handling Challenge: One lane of full and open containers needed to be fed into a seamer infeed flighted conveyor at a 5.50” pitch. With the product being full and open, splashing was problematic.

Morrison Solution: We designed a single lane servo controlled custom timing screw drive unit that accepted the full, open containers from a backlog and feeds the flighted conveyor at the specified pitch. The containers enter the lug containers precisely and gently in order to minimize splashing.

Guarding was provided by Morrison to encapsulate the equipment. Infeed and discharge tunnels were also designed for this equipment. Quick change guides from Morrison were supplied that made changeover occur in a much more timely fashion.

Benefits:

  • Timing screws positively transfer product onto lug conveyors.

  • Our lug conveyors are designed for minimum gap transfer onto your flighted conveyor.

  • The timing screw and lug conveyor have their own servo motors, simplifying the mechanical design resulting in minimal maintenance.

  • The upstream AC conveyor is designed to minimize risk of product splashing and integrate with sealer infeed conveyor.

Construction: Stainless Steel High Washdown
