Case Study: Morrison Inline Orienting Custom Drive Assembly
INDUSTRY: Produce | OPERATING SPEED: 120 CPM
CONTAINER: Fresh Salad Bowls
Customer Container Handling Challenge: A single line of salad bowls needed to be oriented prior to labeling. Due to the nature of this application, it needed to be high washdown rated.
Morrison Solution: We designed a custom drive assembly to accept a backlog of full and sealed, right side up salad bowls from a backlog and orient them through our timing screw (feed screw) system. These containers are presented to Morrison with random orientation, and we orient the containers to have a consistent orientation prior to an inline labeler. Morrison utilizes the geometry of the container to provide consistent orientation. By having a mechanical system, we can provide a more user friendly machine without the need for complex vision systems that are often difficult to troubleshoot and work on.
Morrison is provides consistent orientation (flat facing one consistent direction). Once the containers are oriented, Morrison releases the containers downstream to the labeler. There are no pitch requirements as they leave the timing screw system, there just needs to be a minimal space between containers.
Our system consistently orients the containers prior to the labeler and withstands the caustics/high pressure per IP66 specifications.
