Metering Powder Pucks

Customer Container Handling Challenge

A Morrison customer needed to group shaving foam containers into packs of three while maintaining high-speed production. The challenge was to manage this process from a single lane without damaging the product or causing the containers to tip over.

Morrison Solution

Our engineers created a servo driven stacked timing screw unit and a puck/lug conveyor, that discharge containers into packs of three. After sleeving, the three packs were transferred off the pucks and onto a takeaway conveyor.

The benefits of this stacked timing screw drive unit are the additional points of contact to the containers. One point of contact on the top, and one on the bottom. This is due to the tall height of the containers helping to ensure stability. These engineering designs allowed Morrison to streamline the customer’s production process.

Construction

This system was constructed from black anodized aluminum creating a highly robust and aesthetically pleasing design. The timing screws are created from plastic food-safe UHMW.

Results

Morrison’s custom solution enabled the customer to overcome their container handling challenge and maintain a steady stream of grouped containers for their production process. The integration of the dual stacked timing screws allowed the containers to be handled with care at high speeds without falling over. The integration of the puck/lug conveyor and the takeaway conveyor guaranteed constant and Effective throughput. This system met the expectations of the customer and the household products industry.
