Turn and Group Spam Containers

Customer Container Handling Challenge

A Morrison customer approached us needing a system to turn and group their containers to create 2, 3, and 4 packs of their product. These containers needed to be spaced for a downstream sleeving application. This system also needed to be able to handle the containers at a high speed without damaging the product.

Morrison Solution

To address this challenge Morrison’s expert engineers created four custom timing screws that operated simultaneously. Rather than using one long and cumbersome set of screws to turn and group the containers, we separated those two actions to create a more efficient system. The first set of larger timing screws oriented the metal tins into their correct position, while the second set of screws grouped the containers before they moved downstream. This design allowed for quick and easy changeovers that helped to reduce downtime.

Construction

This system was constructed from stainless steel, and food-safe UHMW plastic. This provided a robust and lightweight construction solution. This system met all the standards of the food industry.

Results

Morrison’s custom timing screw drive unit addressed the issues of the customers and this challenge of turning and grouping. The customer’s containers ran at high speed and no product damage was done to the product. Morrison’s solution improved the manufacturer’s production line by helping to ensure precise container handling and reducing downtime while increasing throughput.
