Metering Tall Snack Cans

Customer Container Handling Challenge

A food manufacturer faced a challenge in handling tall, round containers on their production line. These containers required precise metering for a downstream check weigher, which demanded careful handling. Due to their height, the containers were prone to tipping over, making a specialized solution essential to help ensure stability and smooth operation.

Morrison Solution

Our team of expert engineers designed a dual stacked timing screw drive unit, creating two points of contact with the containers as they passed through the system—one at the top and one at the bottom. This secure positioning kept the containers stable as they were spaced to a 9-inch pitch for a downstream check weigher, effectively preventing tipping. The system also accommodated smaller containers with the same width but different heights by utilizing just one timing screw. Additionally, this design adhered to the highest standards in the food industry.

Construction

This system was constructed from black anodized aluminum and food-safe UHMW plastic, providing a robust and easy-to-clean solution that met all the food industry standards.
