The customer needed a metering solution for a new packaging line that could reliably space filled cups at a 9″ pitch for downstream check weighing. The system had to accommodate both left-hand and right-hand infeed configurations, maintain high throughput, and integrate with existing conveyors. Precise spacing was critical to avoid misreads at the check weigher, and the solution had to work with ambient-temperature containers without requiring change parts.
A dual metering drive system was proposed, each configured as a mirror image to support both RH and LH infeeds. The system uses AC gearmotors and mechanical overload clutches to drive containers at consistent intervals. Photo eye monitoring was incorporated to manage backlog, with the customer supplying sensors and controls. The discharge conveyor speed was considered a key factor in maintaining proper spacing, independent of timing screw pitch.
Each system is built with anodized aluminum for durability in ambient conditions. Support legs and mounting hardware are included for seamless integration with the customer’s conveyor. The system features a 12mm proximity switch and cable, and is designed to reside within customer-supplied guarding. Timing screws are optional and made from white UHMW material. No change parts are required, simplifying setup and operation.
The metering system provided consistent spacing of filled cups at high speeds, improving the accuracy of check weighing operations. Its modular design allowed for easy installation on both sides of the line, reducing downtime and setup complexity. By aligning with the customer’s conveyor and control systems, the solution supported efficient throughput and reliable container handling without the need for frequent adjustments.
