A customer approached us with a need to feed full and open containers from a single lane into a seamer infeed flighted conveyor at a 5.50” pitch. Due to the containers being full and open, splashing was a major concern. Minimizing this splashing was crucial for the customer.
We designed a single-lane, servo-controlled custom timing screw drive unit that accepted the full, open containers from a backlog and fed the flighted conveyor at the specified pitch. The containers entered the lug containers precisely and gently in order to minimize splashing.
Guarding was provided by Morrison to encapsulate the equipment. Infeed and discharge tunnels were also designed for this equipment. Quick change guides from Morrison were supplied that reduced changeover times. Here are some benefits:
• Timing screws positively transfer product onto lug conveyors.
• Our lug conveyors are designed for minimum gap transfer onto your flighted conveyor.
• The timing screw and lug conveyor have their own servo motors, simplifying the mechanical design resulting in minimal maintenance.
• The upstream AC conveyor is designed to minimize the risk of product splashing and integrate with sealer infeed conveyor.
This system was created with stainless steel for a high washdown solution. The screws were created from food-safe UHMW plastic resulting in a light weight and easy to clean construction solution.
Morrison’s single laned servo controlled custom timing screw drive unit, effectively addressed the customer’s challenge, of feeding full and open containers into a seamer infeed flighted conveyor with no splashing. By implementing Morrison’s solution, the customer was able to overcome their container handling challenge. This is an example of how Morrison can handle any container with care.
