Orienting Wine Glasses

Customer Container Handling Challenge

A wine manufacturer struggled with orienting wine glasses on their packaging line. The top-heavy containers needed precise metering to prevent shingling and ensure smooth downstream operations.

Morrison Solution

Our team designed a custom timing screw drive unit that accepted wine glass containers from a backlog and metered and oriented them automatically to continue onto the downstream operation. Due to the nature of the shape, the wine glass containers were prone to shingle, so our container handling experts designed a case-specific infeed to accept randomly oriented and randomly spaced containers and control then at the stem to inhibit the shingle capabilities.

Construction

The timing screw drive unit was constructed from black anodized aluminum, offering a durable yet lightweight solution perfect for high-speed operations. This construction met the stringent industry standards required for handling alcohol containers.

Results

Morrison’s custom solution significantly improved the efficiency and reliability of the wine manufacturer’s production line. Key benefits include:

  • Increased Efficiency: The precise metering and orientation of the wine glass containers reduced downtime and increased the overall throughput of the production line.
  • Enhanced Stability: The custom infeed system effectively prevented shingling, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted flow of containers.
  • Compliance and Durability: The black anodized aluminum construction met industry standards and provided a robust, long-lasting solution that could withstand the demands of high-speed operations.

By implementing Morrison’s tailored timing screw drive unit, the wine manufacturer overcame their container handling challenge, achieving a more efficient and reliable production process.
