A pharmaceutical manufacturer needed a reliable solution to present glass ampoules to a gripper conveyor for inspection before moving them downstream to the next application.
Our engineers devised a timing screw drive unit to accept the ampoules from a mass accumulation, feeding them perpendicular into the timing screw. The ampoules were supported by a back-pressure arm/rail that guided them into the timing screw pockets. The timing screw then arranged the ampoules into a single file, increasing the pitch up to 33mm to twist the ampoule 90 degrees, positioning it on the bottom side of the timing screw. Next, the ampoule was fed tangentially and handed off to the trunnion conveyor for inspection. Morrison equipped the system with stars and guides, along with a top/bottom support rail, to ensure precise control of the ampoule. This allowed the customer to position the gripper between these elevations to securely grab the ampoule.
This system was constructed from stainless steel and food-safe UHMW plastic, a robust and lightweight construction solution.
Morrison’s drive unit effectively streamlined the handling and inspection process for the customer’s ampoules. The system allowed the ampoules to be fed accurately into the gripper conveyor for inspection. This solution enabled the customer to achieve higher throughput and reduced downtime.
