Slave Driven Metering Pill Bottles

Customer Container Handling Challenge

Our customer needed to random feed containers into a specific, maintained pitch for an end of line pick and place application from a cartoner.

Morrison Solution

Our expert engineers crafted a timing screw drive unit designed to accept round pharmaceutical containers for pills from a random feed and space them to a constant 5” pitch for the pick and place application. Our timing screw drive unit gets the containers up to pitch as quickly as possible, which can be seen in the unique screw design that holds this pitch for the last 44” of the timing screw. The slave driven connection was made to a cartoner and resulted in a cost effective, custom container handling solution for picking.

The system was delivered with 5 timing screws, all to be run on the same drive unit, for the following container sizes:
• 225cc
• 150cc
• 120cc
• 75cc
• 30cc

Quick, “tool-less” changeover was provided with this system to make changing container size production simple and easy for operators with virtually no downtime.

Construction

This system was made with black anodized aluminum with plastic UHMW timing screws.

Results

Morrison’s timing screw drive unit significantly improved the customer’s production line efficiency. By transforming a random feed into a precise 5-inch pitch, the system ensured smooth and accurate picking operations. The slave-driven connection to the cartoner provided a consistent and cost-effective container handling solution. This system met the expectations of the customer and the pharmaceutical industry.
