A leading spice manufacturer faced the common challenge of turning and metering square containers before labeling them on two different sides. This application was crucial for maintaining the shelf appearance and brand standards of their product. Therefore, the solutions needed to be reliable, precise, and efficient to ensure the product’s integrity and shelf appeal.
Morrison engineers tackled this challenge by crafting a custom solution that automatically accepted a single lane of product, precisely turning and metering each container with the appropriate pitch for the downstream labeling application. To achieve this, Morrison utilized its expert shingle infeed design for container acceptance, with timing feed screws ensuring positive handling of the containers.
To accommodate two different container sizes, a deluxe adjuster was installed, allowing for quick changeovers using dials instead of tools. The containers were turned from narrow side leading to wide side leading from a backlog. Once positioned, they were metered at discharge to create proper timing and spacing before the labeling application.
This turnkey solution, including Morrison’s electrical controls and infeed guides, was designed to run at slow speeds as per the customer’s request.
The timing screw drive unit was made of black anodized aluminum, offering a durable and lightweight solution capable of running multiple container sizes.
Implementing Morrison’s custom solution allowed the customer to achieve precise and repeatable turning and metering for labeling, preventing delays, reducing wastage, and improving shelf presence. The deluxe adjuster enabled quick changeovers between the two container sizes, reducing downtime and increasing flexibility.
