A leading tobacco manufacture required a system to stack 5 lanes of product prior to a sleever that would eliminate mechanical constraints, manual processes, and give them flexibility and control. Not only did this solution need to meet customer standard, but also needed to have a small footprint as floor space was a concern.
Morrison engineers developed a custom system to handle 5 lanes of chewing tobacco cans from a vertical, gravity-fed twist chute. The containers are fed into mini stacked feed screws via plastic guides and travel horizontally under synchronized screw control. After being pitched to match the platform conveyor, they transition to a lug conveyor.
To ensure smooth transitions and quality stacking, Morrison designed a multi-level starwheel that squares up the containers for the sleeving process. Servo drives control each operation, and a pneumatic container stop ensures a sufficient backlog. UL-certified controls were integrated by Morrison’s team.
The system includes full guarding and an access door for clearing jams. Six compact systems were delivered, fitting perfectly into the tight floor space.
The timing screw drive unit was made of black anodized aluminum, offering a durable and lightweight solution capable of running multiple container sizes.
The system significantly increased operational efficiency by eliminating manual processes and mechanical constraints.
