A leading personal care manufacturer required a custom container handling system to group deodorant containers into twin packs and create consistent spacing prior to a downstream sleeving operation. The high-speed packaging line needed to accept a single lane of containers entering narrow-side leading, rotate them 90 degrees to wide-side leading, and form a precise 1×2 two-pack configuration at production speeds up to 320 containers per minute. Maintaining positive container control and repeatable center-to-center spacing was critical to preventing sleeving disruptions and supporting stable personal care packaging line performance.Â
As a timing screw manufacturer specializing in high-speed container handling equipment, Morrison engineered a dual servo-driven timing screw system for precise twin-pack automation. The custom timing screw system accepted deodorant containers at speeds up to 320 CPM, turned each container 90 degrees, and grouped them into a 1×2 two-pack pattern before metering the packs for consistent spacing into the sleeving operation.Â
Two pairs of interchangeable timing screws allowed the packaging equipment to run both single-pack and twin-pack patterns, providing flexibility for multiple production requirements. The servo motors functioned as a clutch through integrated over-torque limiting controls, supporting smooth operation and protecting the packaging equipment during high-speed production. The system integrated directly with the customer’s existing conveyor, demonstrating Morrison’s expertise in custom container handling system design and packaging line integration.Â
The high-speed timing screw system was constructed using anodized aluminum timing screw bracketry, a UHMW and stainless steel base frame, and Lexan and stainless steel guarding with double-door perimeter protection. The system featured 48-inch UHMW timing screws and two 480V servo motors paired with 5:1 servo gearboxes for precise motion control and repeatable container spacing. Deluxe adjuster mounting enabled quick timing screw centerline and height adjustments to accommodate multiple container formats.Â
As a manufacturer of custom timing screw systems, Morrison designed the equipment for durability, adjustability, and long-term performance within demanding personal care packaging environments.Â
The servo-driven timing screw system consistently achieved 320 CPM input while delivering 160 twin packs per minute with precise spacing for downstream sleeving. Controlled container handling, accurate grouping, and repeatable metering improved sleeving efficiency, reduced the risk of jams, and enhanced overall high-speed packaging line stability.Â
The custom timing screw solution met the customer’s performance requirements while providing operational flexibility and long-term reliability for high-speed personal care packaging applications.
