A leading tobacco manufacture required a system to accept round tubs of tobacco need to be placed onto a puck conveyor for under-wrap sleeving. As this step in the packaging process affects the shelf appeal and brand integrity the solution needed to be precise while upholding industry standards.
Morrison engineers developed a custom dual timing screw drive unit to accept the full tubs of tobacco from a backlog and place them onto a puck conveyor at a 7.50” pitch. This setup ensures the product is fully sleeved while on the conveyor. The use of timing screws in this application offers the advantage of consistently presenting and placing the containers onto the puck conveyor, synchronized to ensure smooth operation.
The timing screw drive unit was made of black anodized aluminum, offering a durable and lightweight solution capable of running multiple container sizes.
The solution achieved precise placement of tobacco tubs onto the puck conveyor, ensuring consistent and accurate sleeving. It maintained an operating speed of 80 containers per minute (CPM), meeting the customer’s production requirements. The system’s design accommodates multiple container sizes, providing versatility for future production needs. Additionally, the black anodized aluminum construction offered a robust and long-lasting solution, reducing maintenance needs and downtime. Overall, the solution upheld industry standards, improved shelf appeal, and enhanced brand integrity, leading to high customer satisfaction.
