Turning and Indexing Soap Bottles for Pick and Place

Personal Care Product Handling Solution

Case Study: Dual Turning and Indexing Custom Timing Screw Drive Unit

INDUSTRY: Personal Care | OPERATING SPEED: 330 CPM

CONTAINER: Shampoo Bottles

Customer Container Handling Challenge: The customer needed to have a robust system that could control the pucks holding the containers, turning and indexing them for pick and place access.

Morrison Solution: In order to perform both needed container movements, the system turns and indexes the containers. The turning capabilities are clockwise and counter clockwise in order to position the containers appropriately within one screw unit.

Morrison designed a custom drive unit that accepted two different styles of pucks holding shampoo bottles that are narrow side leading and turns them 90 degrees counter clockwise and controls them in a back to back pitch. After this control, the containers are turned again 90 degrees clockwise to be narrow side leading once again. Then, the system indexes 12 cycles so a pick and place can pull the containers out of the pucks.
