FEEDING
PIZZA IN A BOX: Here is an example of a product that one does not usually associate with timing screws. We take these frozen pizzas and feed them into empty cardboard boxes. The boxes are sitting in a lug conveyor which is running perpendicular to the direction of the pizza.
PART MATING: This application called for combining the overhead free flowing magnetic arms to a propane container. As you can see, we can have two screws timed so that they will feed into each other appropriately for the head to grab hold of the product.
AMPOULE SINGLE FILE: This is an application that went into a pharmaceutical plant. Morrison needed to accept ampoules from a labeler, create a buffer, and then present the containers without any voids to a robotic pick & place machine. On the infeed of the system you can see the containers are lying down.
HIGH SPEED DUAL: This is an application that was designed to properly space containers prior to a sleever. In order for a sleeving machine to properly feed a shrink sleeve around the container, the proper spacing must be achieved to ensure that the sleeves do not contact multiple containers. In this particular application, Morrison is feeding a sqround/square shaped beverage container. Not only is it important that the containers have proper spacing, but the orientation in which the containers are presented to the sleever is important as well. If the container is presented skewed, the sleeve may not go over the container in the same format and either create a jam, or a scrapped product due to quality checks. Morrison utilizes shingle infeed rails on this system to ensure that the containers are properly separated, as well as to help hold a larger backlog/backpressure. The other unique feature of this system is that it is run off a single AC motor. Morrison utilizes a system of belts and pulleys (synchro bar) to transfer the power from one timing screw to the other without creating any backlash. Having one motor allows for a more simplistic electrical box/enclosure and easier integration into a line..
SERVO INFEED - STOP/START: The systems in these videos highlight the capability of running main machines continuously, while stopping and starting the infeed timing screws to feed product in time with the rest of the machine. By a plant maintaining a constant speed on the main machine, they are able to increase efficiencies. The three systems highlighted in the video below are listed below:
Blue screws/stars – 2-1 combiner: This system is just downstream of (2) bottle unscramblers. The downstream equipment had a lot of issues running consistently and was ramping up/down a lot due to the unscramblers not providing a consistent flow of containers. Morrison’s system will keep a consistent flow of containers going downstream. Whichever of the two infeed lanes has a larger backlog of containers will be the lane that runs. The discharge of the system (star wheels) is running off an AC motor. The infeed timing screws in each lane are controlled by servo motors. When lane 1 needs to run, the servo motors will start/stop in time with the AC system to feed the containers in properly. Vice versa for lane 2.
Rubbing alcohol container: This system was designed for the infeed of a labeler. The plant was running inefficiently because the labeler had to constantly ramp up/down due to a loss of backlog/backpressure on the infeed of the system. This ramping up/down motion created a lot of scrap because the labels were unable to be applied consistently when running at oscillating speeds. By adding the servo infeed timing screw system, they were able to keep the main machine running, and feed containers in time with the rest of the machine. The star wheel pictured in the video was to simulate the infeed star wheel of the labeling machine
Candle Jars: This system was designed for the infeed of a cardboard sleeving machine. Similar to the labeler listed above, the plant was having difficulty maintaining efficiencies because the machine constantly ramped up/down. The oscillating of speeds made it difficult for the sleever to properly apply the glue/cardboard sleeve around the candle. By implementing this servo infeed system, we were able to increase the plants efficiencies by keeping the main machine running at a constant speed and simply stopping/starting the infeed screws to feed in time with the rest of the machine

SINGLE SCREW F STYLE INFEED: Morrison's extensive container handling experience makes it possible to execute unique solutions for difficult to handle containers. Effectively feeding the F Style Container with a single screw requires a unique screw design coupled with special infeed rails that smoothly feed the containers.
TETRA BRICK/VUE CUP FEED TO LUG CONVEYOR: There are certain applications that require a lug conveyor to properly control the container. This video highlights how Morrison will initially control containers with timing screws, and then hand off to a lug conveyor. Tetra Brick - This video highlights how Morrison accepted a tetra brick container from a backlog and eventually fed the containers into a flighted conveyor that was used for a cartooning/sleeving machine.
